New Association Set to Reduce Barriers Between Private Tech and the Federal Government

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Dave Vorland announced the launch of The Alliance for Commercial Technology in Government (The Alliance), a trade association comprised of leading companies in the fields of technology development and integration that will advocate for a simplified and more accessible entry process into the federal marketplace for private-sector technology companies.

American innovation is driven by an ecosystem of startups and commercial technology companies; unfortunately, the bureaucracy and complexities surrounding federal procurement stall the U.S. government’s ability to remain a leader in this space. The Alliance represents American technology startups, accelerators, incubators, and commercially scalable entities to ensure the public sector has access to the best technologies being produced by the private sector.

“The Alliance is a voice for the country’s most innovative commercial technology product companies  who are looking to do business with the federal government. Too often, the slow pace and large scale of  government acquisition contracts shut out the cutting-edge technologies that could vastly improve our  federal government’s ability to work on behalf of its citizens,” said Dave Vorland, Executive Director of  the Alliance. “If we don’t increase opportunities for the government to work with the best private-sector  tech, we will fall behind our competitors around the globe.”

Leveraging the economic and technological contributions of its membership, The Alliance will advocate for increased and unrestricted funds for innovation and technology purchases and contract; incentives and enforcement of requirements for commercial off-the-shelf acquisition; modernization of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program to maximize commercial transition; and security clearance and compliance reform to shorten timelines, reduce cost, and improve access.

The Alliance will work to improve and increase partnerships between the U.S. government and private sector U.S. technology companies for the betterment of U.S. capabilities. This will improve national security and the lives of American citizens nationwide. It is far past time the U.S. made federal acquisition accessible to the best technology companies, not just the biggest and richest.
